1.1.            Background:

 

The Department of Sainik Welfare was created in the year of 1959 vide G.O.Ms. No. 120 of Home (Labour – IV) Department, dt. 19.01.1959.  The department of Sainik Welfare under takes various welfare measures in respect of Ex-Servicemen and their dependents of the State.  The department is meant for looking after the welfare, resettlement and rehabilitation of Ex-Servicemen, widows of ex-servicemen, dependents of deceased Defence personnel serving personnel and their dependents belonging to Andhra Pradesh.

To create awareness the  Ex-Servicemen , widows of Ex-Servicemen  and dependents of

   holders for continuous embodied service, pension

   with disability attributable to military Service, and

   f)  Personnel of Army Postal Service (APS):  Personnel

    who are part of the regular Army and retired from such

    service, i.e., directly from the Army Postal Service itself

    without reversion to P & T Department with a pension or

    who have been released from such service on medical

    grounds, attributable to military service or circumstances

    beyond their control and awarded medical or other disability

    pension are also covered within the definition of EXSM.

    w.e.f. 19th Jul 89.

                                   

Note:    (i) In all cases Recruits are not EXSM.  Armed Forces of the

               union means the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Indian

               union including, Armed Forces of the former Indian States

               but excludes the persons who have served in Defence

   Security Corps, General Reserve Engineering Force,

   Lok Sahayak Sena and Para Military Forces.   

 

                                                  (ii)  The eligibility of the person to the status of ex-servicemen

                                                    will be governed by definition in vogue at the time of his

                                                    discharged and will not be affected by the changes in the

                                                   definition subsequent to his discharge.
